Empowering our rural generalists through leadership training
We recently delivered our inaugural Medical Leadership for Senior Clinicians Program to 14 experienced rural generalists working across country WA.
Funded by the RGPWA Coordination Unit and facilitated by Ian Crosby, Consultant in Organisational and Individual Development, the program focussed on the development and enhancement of the skills essential for supervising, motivating, leading change and providing effective leadership within rural healthcare teams. The course was offered over six weeks, with a 90-minute virtual session scheduled each week. Successful completion of the program enabled participants to claim CPD hours with their General Practice College for the educational activity and reviewing performance components.
One participant told us that they wished they knew about the leadership principles one to two decades ago.
Another participant remarked, "This program was exceptionally well presented, especially considering the complexity of the topics covered. Ian's delivery was engaging and kept everyone involved."
Regarding the accomplishment of program objectives, one participant said, "The session was filled with pearls (practical insights) that I could apply right away."
Entry to the program was competitive, with applications received from 54 experienced rural generalists across the state.Given the success of the program, we hope to be able to run it again – so watch this space!
