Dr Trent Little
I grew up in a small rural town in the South West of WA (Collie), and I always saw myself living and working in the country.
After medical school I did my final term of internship in Port Hedland before driving a bit further north to Broome. I did two years in Broome as a resident medical officer; one of those years I used for my advanced skill training in emergency medicine. I did my primary care training at both a private general practice in Broome and at the Kimberly Aboriginal Medical Service. I was keen to have a critical care focus and therefore headed to Joondalup and Bunbury to gain some anaesthetics experience. The pathway to becoming a rural generalist prepared me very well for my position as an anaesthetics District Medical Officer in Broome.
I must say the thing I love most about being here is my job. The patients we see are generally lovely people with very complex and interesting medical problems. I get to do a combination of anaesthetics and emergency medicine, and dabble in some intensive critical care and acute medicine…sometimes all in one day!
The Kimberley is best known for its picturesque sunsets and beaches, which are amazing (come for a visit if you haven’t already!). Broome also has a great social sports scene, and I have played a bit of football, touch and volleyball since I have been here. I have a pretty friendly roster compared to my city colleagues, so I can usually find time in the week to exercise and do something fun with my family.
