RGPWA trainee Dr Kim Williams ventured from Albany to Nepal in April to undertake a unique two-week project assessing the effectiveness of the Nepalese Government Sanitary Pad Distribution Program. The trip was organised through the Director of the Ministry of Social Development and Health in Nepal, whom Kim studied with at university.

The program currently supplies free sanitary pads to all adolescent girls attending a public school. Not only does this provide equity of access to menstrual products for young Nepalese women, but the project is also seen as a huge step for promoting education and empowerment for girls and women in the country.

During her two weeks in Nepal, Kim split her time between survey creation at the Ministry for Social Development and Health in Pokhara, doing data collection through schools and villages, visiting health clinics, and of course exploring the incredible mountains and scenery Nepal has to offer.

"While the full data analysis of the study isn't complete yet, the results are looking very promising, and has inspired me to hopefully return to Nepal in the future to do more work in this area,” said Kim.
